In connection with Azadi ka Amrit Mohotasav, the department of Urdu, University of Jammu organized one day seminar on the topic “INTELECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS”. Prof. R.D.Sharma former Vice Chancellor University of Jammu & Prof.Sanjay Gupta, Faculty of law university of Jammu were the speakers. Prof. R.D.Sharma delivered lecture on the topic “Copy right and plagiarism” .He said that Copyright includes the unauthorized or unlicensed copying of a work subject to copyright. Plagiarism is using someone else's work or ideas without giving proper credit. In other words, because you are not giving attribution to the owner of the original work or idea -- you are presenting the idea or thought as your own.Plagiarism is a violation of academic norms but copyright violation is illegal but quite common in academia.Plagiarism is an offense against the author; copyright violation is an offense against the copyright holder. In traditional academic publishing, they are usually not the same person, because copyright transfer agreements (CTAs) are so common.Plagiarism applies when ideas are copied; copyright violation occurs only when a specific fixed expression (e.g., sequence of words, use of an image) is copied. Prof.Sanjay Gupta delivered lecture on the topic “Intellectual property rights”.He said that Intellectual property (IP) pertains to any original creation of the human intellect such as artistic, literary, technical, or scientific creation. The laws and administrative procedures relating to IPR have their roots in Europe. The trend of granting patents started in the fourteenth century. In comparison to other European countries, in some matters England was technologically advanced and used to attract artisans from elsewhere, on special terms. The first known copyrights appeared in Italy. Originally, only patent, trademarks, and industrial designs were protected as ‘Industrial Property’, but now the term ‘Intellectual Property’ has a much wider meaning. Prof. Mohd Reyaz Ahmad, HOD Urdu University of Jammu welcome all the Guests , Faculty Members , Civil Society Members, students and scholars for being the part of this seminar. He said that this seminar is the part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav, which is being celebrated all over the India. The University of Jammu in also organizing many literary and cultural activities under Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav. The seminar is a meaningful one, through this the research scholars could know that importance of IPR and they can learned new techniques & ethics of research.He said that department of urdu, University of Jammu is trying his best for the welfare of students and scholars of the University. The proceeding of the seminar were conducted by Dr.Abdul Rashid Manhas and Dr.Chaman Lal while vote of thanks was presented by Dr.Farhat Shamim. The seminar was attended by member of the civil society, Faculty member of the department of urdu and other departments of university, research scholars etc. Those who present during the whole function includes University of Jammu, Prof.Asadullah Wani, Dr.Abdul Rashid Manhas, Dr.Chaman Lal,Dr.Farhat Shamim ,Dr.Abdul Qayoom, Dr.Mehmood Raza, Dr.Javaid Ahmed Shah, Dr.Aijaz Ahmed, Umar Farooq, Yasir Arfat, Nawaz Sharif, Tariq Abrar, Mohd Ashraf and many others.
