The department of Urdu, University of Jammu in collaboration with National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India today organized the “Prof. Manzar Azmi memorial Lecture”. The thought provoking lecture was delivered by Prof. Ibn-e-Kanwal, University of Delhi on the topic “Importance of Non-fictional Prose”. Prof. Rajni Digra Dean Research Studies of Jammu University presided over the function while former HOD Urdu Kashmir University Prof. Qudus Javed was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
At the very outset Prof. Mohd Reyaz Ahmed informed that Manzar Azmi memorial lecture was sanctioned by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language to the department of Urdu, University of Jammu in 2009, so far every year memorial lecture has been organized. He threw light on the life and personality of Prof. Manzar Azmi who served the department of Urdu more than 35 years. Prof. Mohd Reyaz Ahmed described Prof. Manzar Azmi a top Urdu literaturer who had authored dozens of books included ‘Urdu Mein Tamseel Nigari’ and ‘Sabras Ka Tanqeedi Jaiza’ which are the part of the syllabi of various universities of the world. Prof. Manzar Azmi was a through gentle man who remained HOD Urdu from 1991-1993, during his headship department of Urdu organized several co-curricular activities informed Prof. Mohd Reyaz Ahmad. He also enlighten introduction of non-fictional prose.
In his lecture Prof. Ibn-e-Kanwal described Prof. Manzar Azmi was the gem of the Urdu world. He contributed a lot for the development of Urdu language and literature. Prof. Kanwal in his lecture in detail threw light on the non-fictional prose. He said that non-fictional prose cover an almost infinite variety of themes, and they assume many shapes include political and polemical writings, biographical and autobiographical literature, religious writings, and philosophical, and letter writings. Nonfictional prose literature is an immensely challenging task said Prof. Ibn-e-Kanwal.He also threw light on importance of non-fictional prose.
While speaking on the topic Prof. Qudoos Javed trace the history of Urdu prose. He threw light on the development of Urdu prose. Prof. Qudoos Javed described the post-modern prose of different parts of the country on the basis of language, narration and style of the post-modern prose of Urdu. Prof. Qudoos Javed highlighted the non-fictional prose of Urdu.
In his presidential address Prof. Rajni Digra Dean Research Studies of Jammu University reminded those days when Prof. Manzar Azmi was serving in the Urdu department. He described Prof. Manzar Azmi a man having high thoughts. Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar said that Urdu department had a great history of towering Urdu personalities like Prof. Gian Chand Jain, Prof. Sham Lal Kalra, Prof. Jagan Nath Azad and Prof. Manzar Azmi. He congratulated the department of Urdu for organizing the lecture in the memory of great scholar of Urdu world. This is real tribute to the legendary Urdu writer said Prof. Rajni Digra.
Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik too paid tributes to Prof. Manzar Azmi and appreciated the lecture delivered by Prof. Ibn-e-Kanwal. Dr. Farhat Shamim, Asstt. Professor of the Urdu department, University of Jammu, conducted the proceedings of the program while vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Chaman Lal Asstt. Professor of the department of Urdu, University of Jammu.
