Ved Basin Seminar was organized by Department of Urdu, University of Jammu

“Ved Bhasin was not only a towering Journalist of the sub-continent but was also a intellectual par excellence. He was progressive and helped the down trodden society members with his pen as well as ideas. He was a lover of literature and Art. The multidimensional personality of Ved Bhasin would be remembered for a long time”. These views were expressed by illustrious speakers during a seminar organized by the department of Urdu, University of Jammu and Rasa Javedani Memorial Literary Society Jammu jointly today in the Prof. Gain Chand Jain seminar hall of the department of Urdu. The simple but an impressive seminar was attended by the friends of Ved Bhasin, family members, besides civil society members , media persons , students, scholars and teacher s of the university. The seminar was presided over by a noted politician Sheikh Ab. Rehman former M.P. while Prof. Archana Kesar, dean research, University of Jammu and noted politician M.Y. Tarigami grace the occasion as Guest of Honours.
Speaking on the occasion M.Y. Tarigami described Ved Bhasin a intellectual par excellence , who boldly helped the poor society members through his newspapers Kashmir Times. Describing Ved Bhasin a towering Journalist Tarigami said that he always wrote against the wrong policies of Establishment. He never thought for his personal interest but struggle for common masses. Describing his close association with Ved Bhasin. Tarigami said that they have attended several International conferences together he had never seen a person like Ved Bhasin who could speak fearlessly on any issue . He was progressive from the core of his heart and was liked by one and all.
Archana Kesar, Dean research descussed the love of Ved Bhasin towards Dogri language. She said that Ved Bhasin had patronized various dogri organizations and has also struggled for the upliftment of Dogri in the 8th schedule of the constitution. Great poet of Dogri Ved pal Deep was his close friend both were progressive and contributed a lot for the upliftment of poor in the society she said.

Sheikh Ab. Rehman while delivering his speech described the demise of Ved Bhasin a great loss. He described him s socialist from the core of his heart having a secular bent of mind. He was a fearless journalist, he uses his pen for the welfare of poor. Sheikh Ab Rehman also informed that Ved Bhasin was also associated with politics and fought an election from Jammu in 1976 and lose the election by only 26 votes. Ved Ji had great command on the techniques of Journalism. He never used yellow journalism but brought the truth on focus. He was last elder Journalist who had seen the partition of India and also was the witness of 1947 rites in Jammu. Ved Bhasin had good relation with many socialist leaders said Sheikh An Rehman.
Earlier in his welcome address Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik HOD Urdu and President Rasa Javedani Memorial Literary Society Jammu presented a brief sketch of the life of Ved Bhasin . He informed that though Ved Bhasin was a student of Sanskrit and Hindi but he struggled for the welfare of Urdu language throughout his life. His father Besham Dass Bhasin was a Urdu lover, who used to read and write urdu. Ved Bhasin too was a great fan of Urdu poetry and fiction. He was associated with various Urdu organizations. He wrote a number of editorials against the discrimination of Urdu language in the state. He also used to visit frequently the department of Urdu, University of Jammu in connection with various literary functions. It was his Urdu love that Urdu was flourishing in Jammu. Ved Bhasin never compromised on principles . He was fedup by fundamentalist forces. Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik announce that Rasa Javedani Memorial Literary Society has constituted a Ved Bhasin memorial award comprises of Rs 10,000/- cash, a shawl and a citation which would be given to a towering Journalist on his death anniversary. Prof. Qudose Javeed, Dr. Mohd Reyaz Ahmed and Dr. Ashok and others also highlighted the qualities of head and heart of Ved Bhasin and described him a intellectual who never compromise with principles. Rich tributes were also paid to Ved Bhasin by Aresh Sahbai, Khursheed Kazmi and Ameen Banhali through their poetry.
The proceeding of the program was conducted by Dr. Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, Associate Professor of the department of Urdu while vote of thanks was presented by Aseer Kishtwari, General Secretary of Rasa Javedani Memorial Literary Society Jammu.
