Extension lecture on the Sirsayeed Movement was organised by Urdu Department, University of jammu

Prof. Sageer Afraheim , Professor of urdu from Aligarh Muslim University Aligarh today delivered a thought provoking extension lecture on the Sirsayeed Movement which was started by great educationist and philosopher Sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan and is known as Sir Sayed Movement in the history of India. The movement revolutionized the Indian mind and also contributed a lot for the development of Urdu prose. The great Urdu prose writers like Hali, Shibali and Azad were associated with the Sir Sayeed Movement not only the Muslim writers contributed a lot to Sir Sayeed movement but women writers as well as Hindu writers also contributed a lot for the movement informed Prof. Sageer Afraheim. He said that Sir Sayeed Ahmed khan was a visionary man who establish a University which is today known as Aligarh Muslim University and is one of the biggest university of world where students from every part of the world get education , thus, promoting the National Integration and Communal Harmony.
Sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan was a scholar who was also a journalist and started the research journal Tehzeb-ul-Akalaq. Through the article of this journal he popularize his ideas as well as Aligarh movement. Hali, Azad and Nazir Ahmed were the contributor of the journal in the very beginning. Though in initial stage Aligarh Movement got criticizes from different quarters but with the passage of time it was recognized by Muslim people said Prof. Sageer Afraheim. He further said that women writers also contributed to the movement by the writings and the writers of other religion were too impressed by the movement. It is due to the efforts of the Sir Sayeed Ahmed khan that even in the present era Muslim are getting education. Though sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan was criticize for his ideas in the beginning but he did not care criticism and work hard thus, giving the Urdu prose a new dimension.
Prof. Sageer Afraheim further informed that Aligarh Muslim University is celebrating 200th birth anniversary of Sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan from the month of October. During these celebrations special number of Tehzeeb-ul-Aklaq on Sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan would be published. The Sir Sayeed Celebrations are celebrated in five languages they include Urdu, Hindi, English, Arabic and Persian to pay tribute to the legendary writer of Urdu & social reformer.
After the lecture a question answer session was also held in which students, scholars and civil society members asked different questions to Prof. Sageer Afraheim which he replied in a befitting manner.
The extension lecture was organized by the department of Urdu, University of Jammu in the Prof. Gain Chand Jain seminar hall which was presided over by HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik and was attended by scholars, students, faculty members and members of the civil society.
While delivering his presidential address Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik appreciated the thought provoking lecture of Prof. Sageer Afraheim . He inform that department of urdu, University of Jammu is also planning to organize 200th birth anniversary celebrations of Sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan from the month of October. During the celebrations different lectures and seminars would be organized by the department of Urdu, University of Jammu on the life and works of Sir Sayeed Ahmed Khan besides a special number of TASALSUL would be published in the memory of legendary Urdu writer who revolutionized the Muslim community in particular and people of India in general.
The proceeding of the program were conducted by Dr. Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, Associate Professor of the department of urdu while Dr Chaman Lal presented a vote of thanks. Prof. Sukhchain Singh, Prof. Zia-ud-Din, Dr Abdul Rashid Manhas and Dr Farhat Shamim were also present on the occasion.
