The department of Urdu, University of Jammu in collaboration with Qasmi Qutub Khana today organized ‘meet the poet program’ in the Prof. Gain Chand Jain seminar hall of the department of Urdu, University of Jammu. The reputed poet of the sub-continent Farooq Nazki interacted with the students, scholars, Faculty members and respectable citizens. The veteran Literaturer M Y Taing presided over the function while former Secretary Cultural Academy Dr Rafiq Masoodi grace the occasion as Chief Guest. Prof. Nusrat Andrabi former Principal Mulana Azad Road women college Srinagar was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. While interacting with the audience Farooq Nazki inform that he was born in a respectable family of Bondipura on 14th of February. Through his family was poor but all of them were educated well. Mir Ghulam Rasool Nazki was his father’s name who was towering Urdu and Kashmiri poet of the sub-continent. Farooq Nazki has seven brothers and one sister, his father Ghulam Rasool Nazki according to Farooq Nazki was a disciplined man. Farooq Nazki started his Urdu Poetry in 1962, the then Prime Minister of J&K honoured him with price of rupee one for one urdu verse informed Farooq Nazki. He further informed that he started Urdu poetry in Urdu Nazam later he use to participate in Urdu Mushiras. He describes Late Prof. Ameen Andrabi as his only friend, who guided and projected him throughout life. He was not influenced by any movement of Urdu. His two collections of poetry has been already published and his Kulyat is going to publish very soon. He is writing Urdu Nazam infrom Farooq Nazki.
In the question answer session various scholars, students included Piarey hatash, Dr Asif and Zakir asked various questions to Farooq Nazki which he replied in a befitting manner. He was particularly asked to threw light on his life as a broadcaster which he did well. He also entertain the audience by reciting his beautiful poetry. His poetry got thunder of applause from the audience.
M Y Taing in his mind blowing presidential address describe Farooq Nazki not only a towering urdu writer and broadcaster of the sub-continent but also a symbol of Kashmiri civilization. Highlighting the contribution of Farooq Nazki for the development of Urdu language and literature in J&K. MA Taing describe Farooq Nazki a man who projected the realities of life in his poetry. He produced a generations of Urdu writers in Kashmir as broadcaster of radio Kashmir and Director Doordarshan Srinagar said Taing. Taing describe Jammu a land of lovers of Urdu language and literature and it was Maharaja Pratap Singh who gave Urdu official status in 1889 and Urdu is the link language of J&K but is not getting its official due said Taing. Taing welcome the announcement of Dr Haseeb Drabu for settingup of Urdu council in the state of J&K. Referring to grandfather of Farooq Nazki Taing said that Mir Ghulam Mustafa Nazki was a highly intellectual personality and was a good poet too.
Earlier in his welcome address Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik introduce the eminent poet to the audience. He infrom that Farooq Nazki is not only a eminent poet but also a good human being having a secular bent of mind. Prof. Shohab further said that Farooq Nazki and his father late Ghulam Rasool Nazki has rendered marvelous services for the upliftment of Urdu in Jammu. Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, Associate professor of the department ably conducted the proceeding of the program while Dr Chaman Lal; presented vote of thanks. Today’s program was attended by students, scholars, faculty members and civil society members.
